Scan in a fixed route
A 5×5 grid is easier to search when your eyes follow the same path every time. Move left to right across the first row, then continue row by row. Randomly jumping between shapes makes it more likely that you will miss a target in a corner or accidentally inspect the same area twice.
Selection can be corrected before checking
Every cell toggles on and off when tapped. If you notice that a square was selected while the target is a circle, tap the square again to remove the selection. The game evaluates the board only when you press Check Selection, so use that review opportunity rather than submitting immediately.
A correct board requires exact matching
Finding most targets is not enough. If there are six triangles, all six must be selected, and no circle, square, or diamond can be included. This two-sided check rewards complete scanning and restraint at the same time.
No timer or target-speed claim
Shape Sort is not a reaction-time test. The current version gives you as long as you want to inspect the grid. Random layouts can contain different numbers and arrangements of each symbol, so session speed is not directly comparable across every round.
